First Checking for Teens

Does your teen need a bank account with debit card?

First Checking is designed for ages 13 to 20 with no monthly maintenance fee. All checking accounts come with a complementary Visa debit card to make cash-free payments.

Account holders can choose to prevent overdraft on debit card and ATM transactions which limits spending to the funds available in the account. Spend only what you have.

All the great benefits of a checking account:

  • Ability to make direct deposits
  • Ability to connect to Venmo, PayPal, or other electronic payment services
  • Debit card for online or in-person payments or ATM card for access to cash
  • No monthly maintenance fee

Opening Your Account

For security purposes, the adult and teen will need to come into a branch to open an account together. Your teen will need a photo ID which can be a student ID, passport, driver’s license, or other government issued ID. A parent or guardian will need to be on the bank account until the teen is age 18. The adult must have a photo ID and physical address to open the account.

Managing Your Account

Both the adult and teen will be responsible for any overdraft activity and fees, if applicable. For the best experience, we recommend the following tips to avoid overspending.

  • Overdraft: During set up, you can choose to prevent overdraft on debit card and ATM transactions. For the best experience, we recommend opting out of overdraft to avoid spending more than the funds available.
  • Online Banking: Track your balance and account activity in real-time. Sign up for online banking
    • TIP: Set up low-balance alerts to track when the account balance falls below $100 or whatever amount you choose. Alerts can be sent via text or email.
  • Mobile Apps: Download our mobile app to bank from your phone.

  • google-play      apple-store

  • Prevent Fraud: Do not recognize a transaction? Report immediately to prevent further misuse of your card.

Account Holders Over 20:

First Checking will roll over to the Evergreen Checking Account when the account holder turns 21. Notification will be sent in advance. At that time, the account holder can choose to upgrade to Cascade Checking. See all checking options.
